The City is making changes to its General Plan to align with State Law focused on environmental justice and equity.
Environmental Justice Element
The City is preparing a new General Plan Element focused on environmental justice pursuant to Senate Bill (SB) 1000. The Environmental Justice (EJ) Element will focus on reducing pollution exposure and improving access to essential services and resources, such as public facilities, affordable and healthy food, and safe housing.
Open Space Element
Alongside the EJ Element, the City is updating the Open Space and Recreation Element to support equitable access to open space in conformance with SB 1425. The Open Space and Recreation Element Update will aim to improve equitable access to parks and open space, climate resilience, and other open space benefits.

Meetings and Activities
Equitable community engagement is central to this effort, and there will be multiple opportunities for residents, community organizations, and stakeholders to share input throughout the process.
