3D Printing
The San Bruno Public Library offers free 3D printing services on our Dremel 3D40-FLX-01 3D Printer by reservation only. There is a limit of one print job per week per user. Appointments must be made at least 72 hours in advance. You may make the appointment before your project is approved.
Filament is provided at no charge. Patrons can reserve the 3D printer in one hour blocks (must sign up for a minimum of two hours) for printing. The reservation block should be for the total amount of time needed to print your project, plus any additional orientation time required. Print jobs must be completed by library closing times (no overnight printing jobs). Although you do not have to stay for the entire printing time period except to come back to at the end to clean up and pick up your print job, note that Library staff will not monitor for any printing errors, nor will any printing failures be corrected.
Staff can provide basic instruction in the use of the 3D printer itself for first-time users, but users are expected to have a .stl format completed computer file/printing project prior to making a reservation. A file is obtained from a 3D printing object library, such as Thingiverse or by creating a design using computer assisted design (CAD) software.
Patrons must email their .stl file to sbpl@plsinfo.org at least 72 hours in advance so that staff can verify the project is printable. You may make the appointment and then email your .stl file to us. The Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
Once your project has been approved, you will receive an email reply to confirm your reservation. Please bring in your project file on your personal USB drive at the time of your reservation.
The Library has the following PLA filament colors to choose from (subject to availability): Black, Blue, Green, Orange, Red, White
By reserving the 3D printer you accept the conditions set forth in the San Bruno Public Library's 3D printer policy and San Bruno Public Library's 3D printer guidelines.
Any additional questions can be sent to sbpl@plsinfo.org. By reserving a 3D printer, you accept the conditions set forth in the San Bruno Public Library's 3D printer policy.
