Using the Internet

The San Bruno Public Library provides public access to the World Wide Web in keeping with its mission to promote, improve, and expand the reference and informational resources of the Library. Access to the Web makes the best use of technology to provide current materials and information to library users. The Internet and its available resources may contain material of a controversial nature. The San Bruno Public Library staff does not monitor and cannot control the information accessed through the Internet, and cannot be held responsible for its content.

In accordance with City Council policy, the Library has installed CyberPatrol, a software program which blocks sexually explicit material. As with other library materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian. Misuse of the computer or the World Wide Web may result in loss of computer privileges.

The Library currently offers twelve public access Internet workstations. Eight of these are located in the adult area and are for the use of high school students and adults. Four are located in the Children's room and are designated for children through the 8th grade. Children must have their library cards present to use the Internet and children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Internet can be used a total of one hour per day. Other local libraries allow a 2-hour daily limit. Please ask at the reference desk for more information. No more than two people at a time can use a computer. There is also a printing cost of 15 cents per page, 30 cents for color. Printing must be pre-paid on your library card at the self-service kiosk or at the desk.

Library staff can help with basic computer use, but is not able to provide detailed individual instruction. We also encourage you to explore on your own.
