Non-Housing Activities
A major objective of the Redevelopment Plan is to take advantage of the development opportunities resulting from ongoing transit improvements in San Bruno, including the new San Bruno BART Station and the planned Caltrain Grade Separation and Station Relocation Project.
Downtown & Transit Corridors Plan: The San Bruno Redevelopment Agency issued a Request For Proposals for preparation of a Downtown & Transit Corridors Plan in the Redevelopment Area in September 2007. City staff interviewed all six urban design firms that submitted proposals and selected Moore Iacafano Goltsman, Inc. (MIG) to prepare the Plan. The Redevelopment Agency approved a contract with MIG on February 12, 2008.
The goal of the Downtown & Transit Corridors Plan is to guide future development and reuse in Downtown and along adjacent transit corridors, including El Camino Real (between Crystal Springs and I-380), San Mateo Avenue (between El Camino Real and I-380), and San Bruno Avenue (between 101 and Elm Avenue). The Plan will convey to the community expectations for quality development and establish standards for review of projects while maintaining the history and character of the established community. The Plan will include an implementation strategy to guide Redevelopment Agency actions to encourage and support private investment in the Downtown and transit corridors.
Building Facade Improvement Program: The Agency established the Building Facade Improvement Program in 2003 to improve the physical appearance, stimulate private investment and economic revitalization in downtown San Bruno and other commercial areas. The Facade Program is ongoing. The Program provides matching grants to owners of non-residential property and business tenants to upgrade their building facades.
470 San Mateo Avenue: The Agency funded a temporary pocket park on this site completed in 2007.
Other Activities: The Agency funds ongoing enforcement of housing, nuisance, zoning, and sign code violations. Code enforcement is a major emphasis in the Redevelopment Project Area to ensure that health and safety issues are maintained in residential and commercial districts.
